The production facility that prints The Providence Journal and the Boston Herald is closing, laying off 136 workers.

The Providence-based printing facility is responsible for printing nine of Gannett's local publications, including the Telegram & Gazette and Patriot Ledger.

The closure is just the latest cutback at the 195-year old newspaper, which in recent years has laid off staff, trimmed benefits, and lost thousands of readers under the ownership of Gannett.
