Hīkoi mō te Tiriti leaves Dargaville, headed for Auckland

The Māori Queen, Nga wai hono i te po, will join the national hīkoi to Parliament on Tuesday, saying she will not accept a process which undermines Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Thousands of supporters of the hīkoi against the Treaty Principles Bill reached Porirua, north of Wellington, on Sunday evening.

On Tuesday morning, Hīkoi mō te Tiriti is expected to move in convoy from Takapūwāhia Marae to Waitangi Park, Te Aro, before proceeding to Parliament grounds from 9am, along the Golden Mile (Courtenay Place, Manners Street, Willis Street and Lambton Quay).
Hīkoi mō te Tiriti continues on south
Police continue to report no significant issues as Hīkoi mō te Tiriti reached Palmerston North on Saturday, where participants stayed overnight. On Saturday morning, approximately 9000 people marched through Hastings, before the main hīkoi headed south down State Highway 2 through Waipawa, Waipukurau, and Dannevirke.
Non-Māori lend their voices of support to the Hīkoi mō te Tiriti
Across the seven days of hīkoi and carkoi, many non-Māori joined in at various points to lend their support. The associate education minister says some schools are formally endorsing the hīkoi against his bill, flouting rules on political neutrality.
